Hunter’s officer’s sabre, mounted, 1790-type, with a brass-branch guard; a long-tailed cap adorned with braiding; the tang entirely filigree-worked; blade with a hollow edge, a central lateral fuller ending in a counter-edge, gilded and blued to one-third its length, marked on one side with ‘VIVE LE ROY ET LA NATION’ and adornedwith two crossed swords surmounted by the royal crown and surrounded by fleurs-de-lis; on the other side, the Latin motto: “PRO LEGE REGE ET PATRIA” surmounted by the crowned arms of France; at the heel, a fleur-de-lis on each side; the back is inscribed ‘Capitain de chasseur’ (the blade has probably been re-gilded and re-blued); wooden scabbard with slits covered in leather, two brass fittings and rivets; total length: 89.5 cm
