A rare Year IX light cavalry sabre, with a three-pronged brass guard hallmarked"LW" (B.P.C. Levavasseur, inspector from March 1798 to September 1803), crossguard also hallmarked "M" surmounted by a cogwheel(J.J. Mouton, civil inspector from November 1793 to November 1798 and first-class inspector from July 1798 to February 1809), tangcovered in leather and held in place by two brass rings; curved blade one hollow side hallmarked at the heel ‘Mouton et Levavasseur’, signed on the back ‘Mf ture de Klingenthal Couleaux Frres Entrep rs”; scabbard made entirely of iron with a flat back, wider flat ferrules a cord on each side, iron tip cut and stamped with the Mouton and Levavasseur mark; total length: 105 cm (leather on the pommel slightly shrunk, scabbard with knocks and a small repair at the tip; one small ring is missing)
