Small pocket flintlock pistol, with a barrel that is square-sided at the top and round towards the muzzle, finished with a bulge; damascened in gold with a thunder motif and signed on the upper side “GALVA A PARIS”, calibre 13.5 mm; flat-bodied lock with a swan-neck hammer featuring a safety catch, entirely engraved with foliage and trophies, marked “GALVA” and “A PARIS” on the bevelled part of the lock; silver fittings, engraved and hallmarked with a crowned ‘E’ circa 1745; walnut stock, lightly carved; length: 21.5 cm (the barrel is missing, a crack at the muzzle where a pin would have been, signs of wear)

Galva Claude Philippe, master arquebusier in Paris, died c. 1750; his widow took over the business in 1769. He must have had brothers, who were also arquebusiers c. 1769 in Paris
