Small flintlock hunting rifle for a teenager, converted to percussion, by Prélat, Paris; double-barrelled with a damask-patterned rib, marked on the rib in gold lettering: “BY PATENT OF INVENTION BY PRELAT, ARCHER TO HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS IN PARIS”, length 58 cm, calibre 14 mm; trigger guards plain, flat bodies, each bearing the same inscription as the barrel, within an oval; one of the hammers marked: “D’INVENTION”, the other repaired; cut-work iron fittings; the front of the trigger guard in the shape of a stylised fleur-de-lis; stock with a burl-carved cheek piece, chequered grip forming a duck’s bill; total length 86 cm. (Stock fractured in the middle of the grip; crack beneath the right-hand trigger guard; one hammer no longer catches).
