Description
A fine commemorative dagger presented to Roberto Farinacci, General Secretary of the Italian National Fascist Party (1925–1926). Handle and guard made from a single piece of silver. Pommel carved in the shape of a lion’s head. Fluted handle. Guard with quillons in the shape of eagle heads, their beaks pointing towards the tip, adorned in the centre with a shield bearing the Fascist symbol. Straight blade, with a central ridge and double edge, engraved on both sides; on the obverse: “To His Excellency Roberto Farinacci – The Black Shirts of the Roman Legion, the maimed – Rome XXXVIII-X-MCMXXXVI”; and, on the reverse, “Sanguinem pro Patria Profundere”. Silver scabbard engraved with the Fascist emblem and the inscription “Tutti il Duce – Il Duce per la Vittoria”. On the back, a suspension loop, a silver hallmark “800” and a silversmith’s mark “BS”. Length: 33.5 cm. Gross weight: 536 g. B.E. Biography: Roberto Farinacci (1892–1945), Italian Fascist politician and journalist. After the First World War, in which he served as a volunteer, he helped to found the Italian Combat Groups alongside Benito Mussolini in 1919. Elected to the Chamber of Deputies (1921). He founded the newspaper *Cremona Nuova* (1922), which was renamed *Il Regime Fascista* in 1929. He served as General Secretary of the National Fascist Party (1925–1926). He became a minister in 1938.
