A magnificent DRK Hauer 1938-type gift dagger, in gold- and silver-plated metal. Fluted wooden handle. Flat pommel decorated with oak leaves, featuring a cross pattée and an inscription in Persian (?) in the centre, embellished with oak leaves. Guard with two broad, straight quillons, chiselled with oak leaves. Oval pommel engraved with an eagle on a St John’s cross. Damascus blade with a serrated back, hollow edges and a screwdriver-shaped point. Scabbard richly decorated with foliage, oriental warriors armed with axes and spears, and leafy scrolls; the reverse side is decorated in the same style. Inscription on the scabbard: ‘Zlatooust’ (a town in Russia famous for the manufacture of bladed weapons, including sabres and daggers). Overall length: 45 cm. In very good condition.
