Description
# Brigadier-General’s sabre, of the type used by line cavalry officers in 1822.
Horn hilt with traces of filigree. Brass mountings (traces of gilding), four-pronged guard decorated with laurel friezes. Pommel adorned with two silver stars. Thick triangular blade with hollow sides, ‘à la Préval’, signed ‘Coulaux Frères à Klingenthal June 1833’.
Iron sheet scabbard with a single ferrule (cleaned, minor dents). Lyre-shaped pommel.
Length: 118 cm.
A.B.E. July Monarchy period.
An early example of the ‘à la Préval’ blade, introduced around 1830 and which would become popular during the Second Empire and the Third Republic.
