129th INFANTRY REGIMENT & RENE COTY - TESTIMONY addressed to President René COTY by his comrades-in-arms, in the form of a brown morocco leather folder, the cover inscribed in gold lettering with ‘GENERAL A. WEILLER AND THE RATAPOILS / OF THE 129TH INFANTRY REGIMENT / TO THEIR CO-COMBATANT / RENÉ COTY / PRESIDENT OF THE FRENCH REPUBLIC’, containing a watercolour by Alexandre MINIAC (1885–1963) depicting an allegory of victory, a ‘poilu’ (First World War soldier) brandishing the flag of the 129th Infantry Regiment, 25 x 14 cm, the autograph signatures of some thirty comrades and a message, in-4 (31 x 19.5 cm), traces of damp on the spine, BE.
René COTY (1882–1962): President of the Republic from 1954 to 1959. He enlisted in the 129th Infantry Regiment, declined a place in the officers’ platoon and left for the front, where he remained until January 1919.
