1836 MODEL INFANTRY TRAINING HELMET OF THE 44th LINE INFANTRY REGIMENT, made entirely of moulded, varnished black leather, with a high, re-punched crown, a crest featuring a large horizontal gadroone and metal ventilation holes on either side, missing brass visor, tricolour cockade made of sheet metal, stamped brass plaque—probably added later—depicting the Gallic rooster perched on a globe inscribed with the number ‘44’ against a radiating background, surrounded by a laurel and oak branch, brass rosettes decorated with a protruding star; the visor and neckband trim are incomplete; the inner lining is made of brown leather ‘wolf’s teeth’ in poor condition; scarlet wool pompom; dates from the July Monarchy period; ABE.
