Description
1821 MODEL INFANTRY OFFICER’S SABRE OF THE NATIONAL GUARD, 1830, with a chiselled brass hilt comprising a main and a secondary branch decorated with foliage, wooden hilt sheathed in sheepskin with filigree made from twisted brass wires, a short-tailed cap, and a small curved crossguard ending in a flower-shaped pommel. Slightly curved blade, 75 cm long, with hollows and fuller grooves in places, blued halfway up and engraved on one side with ‘GARDE NATIONALE 1830’ and on the other with a design of military symbols; flat back marked ‘ Coulaux Frères à Klingenthal”, a black leather scabbard with a cracked finish, unstitched at the pommel, featuring three brass fittings and two 1845-style suspension rings, a sword strap in gold braid and brown cord, dating from the July Monarchy period, ABE.
