Description
‘Playfair’ percussion revolver, six-shot, 44 calibre, double-action. 15 cm rifled barrel with square sides, engraved on the top with ‘C.PLAYFAIR ABERDEEN’. Cylinder bearing proof marks, engraved with a frieze of leaves. Round frame engraved with foliage motifs, featuring a hammer without a crest. Stock plates in waxed chequered walnut (screw replaced). Length: 31 cm A.B.E. (Pinholes). Circa 1830–1850. Active from 1830, Charles Playfair & Co were arquebus makers and manufacturers of hunting accessories in Aberdeen, and suppliers to the royal family. – Expert: Arnaud de Gouvion Saint-Cyr
