Description
An interesting 1871-model Dolman overcoat belonging to a general officer, formerly owned by General Laurent Victor Adolphe Joubert (1851–1923), a graduate of Saint-Cyr in the Suez intake of 1868–1870, Adolphe Joubert served as a colonel in the 152nd Infantry Regiment between 1902 and 1909, and was promoted to general on 21 June 1909. Among other commands, he led the 62nd Infantry Brigade.
His dolman, apart from a few tiny moth-eaten spots, is in very fine condition; made from high-quality black cloth, it features five black brandebourgs. It features spearhead-shaped sleeve braid and a six-strand Hungarian knot; two silver stars were added when he was promoted to the rank of brigadier-general. A label in the pocket attributes the making of this fine dolman to the tailor of the 152nd Infantry Regiment, C. Guillaume.
