Description
A superb flintlock musket, with a small-calibre barrel measuring 1090mm, octagonal for the first third and then round. Flat lock-plate, cut into an ogive shape at the rear and bearing the prestigious ‘Cassaignard à Nantes’ signature. Flat swan-neck trigger. Iron pan with bevelled sides; central-stop lock mechanism, with the lock spring screwed in from the inside. The gun is fitted with bronze fittings, and the trigger guard features a palm rest. The butt plate has a long return ending in an urn-shaped finial. Three ramrod channels and a cap forming the ramrod entry, holding an iron ramrod. Long, smooth walnut stock extending almost to the muzzle. Slight chip to the left side of the stock, traces of glue on the front of the wood inlay around the trigger guard and counter-trigger guard. Cow’s foot-shaped stock. The stock joint at the breech of the receiver and the counter-receiver is finished at the rear with a teardrop-shaped end. Fitted with a bayonet with a socket adapted to the barrel’s diameter by re-tubing. Fitted with an old white leather sling. Overall length: 1480mm. Mechanism in working order. Condition 2
