Description
A heavy sword of the 1734 type, with a heavy, straight, symmetrical blade featuring four hollow edges and a central ridge, 915 mm in length; the thickest part of the blade in the first quarter bears a flat surface into which brass letters (now missing) reading ‘vive le roy’ are inlaid.
Cast bronze mountings, an olive-shaped pommel with prominent rivets, a sturdy crossguard branching into three captive prongs, the two outer prongs forming the lips of the symmetrical crossguard plate, the central strand separating the two crossguards and encircling the blade’s spine; a quillon arched forwards; a curved tang adorned with a thick filigree of orchal wire; no scabbard
