A fine mid-18th-century court sword with a silver mount
The triangular blade has a broad base with three hollow panels; the main panel bears a cartouche featuring a cherub framed by a moon and a sun, whilst the secondary panel bears two intertwined letters.
The blade retains all its original polish and measures 810 mm in length; it has a fine cast silver hilt, chiselled and re-pierced, a round pommel embellished in relief with a courtly scene on one side and a hunter at rest on the other; a chiselled crossguard, re-pierced with hunting motifs on one side and a flute player on the other, both curving forwards; no functional donkey-head guard, guard escutcheon featuring a hunting trophy on one side and a hunter on the other; the escutcheon joins the symmetrical double-sided bridge, richly decorated with a hunting scene or a resting hunter on the front, curved, four-sided tang, reinforced and decorated with a band of curled silver leaves, alternating with a fine chevron filigree; no scabbard
