Description
A fine city sword from the first half of the 18th century
thick blade with a colichemarde hilt and three hollow sides, bearing remnants of engravings of trophies of arms and crowns (rather faded) at the broad base of the blade, which measures 855 mm in length; a substantial gilded chiselled bronze mount, a round pommel in the shape of a paveau button; a single guard branch, curved at its centre and longitudinally striated, arching forwards towards the hilt; a long, striated escutcheon; a sturdy donkey’s foot; symmetrical bivalve guard with lips reinforced by a relief design; wooden tang entirely covered with a coil of brass wire intertwined with a similarly coiled filigree.
Two ferrules mark the ends of the tang; no scabbard
