Description
A small, elegant 18th-century city sword
Straight triangular blade with three hollow sides, 805 mm long, engraved with entrelaced patterns on the sides; the sword is fitted with a fer, faceted olive-shaped pommel with prominent rivets; the central section of the crossguard is thickened, joining the crossbar which terminates on the opposite side in a forward-curving quillon; the main guard branch splits into a secondary branch which joins a protective ring forming a hollow bridge.
No donkey’s back; a small, rounded triangular spacer separates the guard from the blade; a tapered hilt with four rounded sides, curved in the centre, made of wood and covered with a fine, tightly wound filigree of orchal wire, in its wooden-core scabbard lined with paper painted to imitate shagreen, ringed pommel, triangular butt
