Description
Heavy sword, circa 1680 Straight blade with four hollow sides and central ridges; the blade’s full tang bears, on both sides, the text ‘vive le roi’ inlaid with brass baton letters, with each word separated and framed by a triangular motif comprising three circles; the blade is 870 mm long and quite heavily damaged (with gaps in the edge in the final third). Cast bronze mountings, a helical tang curved with hemispherical coils, a round pommel, a prominent rivet line, a crossguard branch joining and forming the guard plate whilst dividing into two prongs, the straight prong having been twisted and re-soldered; no scabbard Condition: 2-
