Description
A lovely, large wallet in Empire-style green morocco leather, embellished with a band of vine leaves in gold filigree running around the edge. The flap bears the inscription ‘14th Line Infantry Regiment, Colonel M. ESTEVE’ in fine gold lettering. The wallet has two gusseted compartments; the gussets on the right-hand side of the main compartment are missing. The lock and hinges are made of silver. The thicker section of the wallet serves as a pen compartment (empty). Enclosed are various documents addressed to Battalion Commander Estève in 1808 appointing him Major, signed by the Minister of War. A letter dated 1811 from the General Administration of the Societies of Westphalia and Hanover. A letter appointing him in 1809 as Colonel of the 82nd Line Infantry Regiment for the part of the regiment that remained in Europe, as part of the regiment was stationed in Martinique.
