Description
A beautiful and rare decoration of the Paris National Guard, worn during the Fête de Fédération des François on 14 July 1790. A wide white moiré ribbon with two gold stripes, bearing in its centre a tricolour cockade made of gathered cloth, holding a button inscribed ‘Garde Nationale de Paris’, with a silver medallion featuring a fleur-de-lis in relief at the centre. Suspended by a loop is a double-sided gilt-bronze medal bearing, on the reverse and surrounded by a crown, the inscription ‘Confédération des Français’, and on the obverse an allegorical figure surrounding the Altar of the Fatherland, dated ‘In Paris, 14 July 1790’.
