A very fine 18th-century lock in polished iron marcasite
The body, decorated with interlacing patterns and faceted half-pearls running around the circumference, holds five flat chains ending in spring-loaded snap hooks of varying lengths; the bodies of the chains consist of alternating elongated plates, with faceted curves and openwork ‘S’-shaped plates; a sturdy, flat, rounded tab folded back allows the lock to be fastened to the belt.
