Description
Large left-hand hilt in the 17th-century style. Symmetrical, four-sided straight blade, lightened by two grooves and worked with re-piercing. Rectangular ricasso, openwork, decorated with a mythological allegory on both sides. Flattened round pommel, adorned with spiral fluting. Prominent, sturdy rivet stud. Guard plate covering the hilt, of a symmetrical ovoid shape, decorated with ostrich feathers framing a relief medallion depicting a laureated bust in the classical style. A hook-shaped projection completes the guard and acts as a point guard. Two long, straight, twisted quillons ending in blossoming flowers. The wooden tang is clad in filigree-patterned shagreen and finished with two braided ferrules. No scabbard. L: 545 mm. Condition 2
