FRENCH SCHOOL, CIRCA 1800 Portrait of a young woman in a white dress A round miniature painted on ivory depicting a young woman in a half-length portrait, turned slightly in a three-quarter profile, with brown curly hair falling in long ringlets over her shoulders, wearing a white dress with a high waist and short sleeves, set against a light, shaded background. Set in a circular gilded brass frame with an inner foliage frieze, fitted with a hanging ring. Directoire–Consulate period, circa 1795–1805. Visible diameter: 6.6 cm. Total diameter: 8.4 cm. Signs of wear and oxidation on the frame; some visible soiling beneath the glass. The miniature was examined whilst framed.
