LATE 18TH-CENTURY FRENCH SCHOOL Portrait of a young woman with a bouquet of flowers An oval-shaped miniature depicting a young woman in a half-length portrait, turned slightly in a three-quarter pose, her curly hair adorned with a wreath of roses and small flowers; she is dressed in a brown gown with a blue sash and a white muslin collar, holding a bouquet of roses and flowers in front of her. The background features a wooded landscape beneath a blue sky. Medium undetermined, as the miniature has not been removed from its frame. Set in an oval frame of gilded brass, with a moulded border and an inner frieze of foliage. Late 18th century, circa 1780–1790. Visible dimensions: 7.4 × 6.2 cm. Overall dimensions: 9 × 7.8 cm. Condition: original hanging ring missing and replaced; three imperfections to the frame’s mounting system on the reverse; wear and oxidation on the brass. Miniature examined whilst framed.
