Description
Mick Tjapaltjarri Namarari (Pintupi) (1926-1998) Kangaroo Dreaming / Le Rêve du Kangourou 1995 Acrylic on Belgian linen canvas 126 x 90 cm Provenance: > Commissioned by Yapa Art, Steve Nibbs, Alice Springs (Northern Territory) > Kimberley Art, Melbourne (Victoria). A photograph of the artist holding the painting will be provided with the work. A certificate from the Kimberley Australian Aboriginal Art Gallery. Condition Report: Unmounted Kangaroos are the main source of meat in the Western Desert. They are cooked in the earth, in their own skin, then roasted in the sand over a large fire set on the carcass. The tail is removed and set aside, as it cooks more quickly. During the Dreamtime, several kangaroo ancestors were transformed into this animal. The Namarari did not tell the uninitiated about their exploits. The squares represent the places where the kangaroo ancestors celebrated ceremonies. MJ
