The blade has notches at the tip and striations. Blade length 33 cm Blade width 3 cm Diameter of dagger head 5 cm Provenance: > Collected in situ by a French journalist in the early 1980s, > The dagger is an important object in Papuan culture, symbolising strength and virility. Papuans prefer to make them from human bones and also from cassowary bones. The cassowary is considered a mythological relative of humans. The entire cassowary is exploited: the meat, feathers and bones are used to make ornaments, objects, tools and weapons.
