Middle Sepik, Papua New Guinea Wooden hook. This type of carving with a hanging hook was made by the Papuan tribes along the Sepik River. This type of hook was used to hang food, ceremonial objects and medicines. This wooden piece is in good condition and still bears traces of ochre.
