Polly Ngala Napaljarri (Alyawarre) (circa 1936-2022) Anwekety (Conkerberry) Bush Plum / La prune de la brousse 2018 Acrylic on Belgian linen 57 x 101 cm Provenance: > Mbantua Gallery, NT, Art Leven [formerly Cooee Art], Gadigal (Sydney, NSW) Condition report : Not mounted on stretcher Polly lives in a very traditional way in Utopia and like her sisters Angelina and Kathleen she paints the theme of the bush plum. This fruit grows on a wild plum tree, producing a sweet black plum-like fruit that is much appreciated by the Australian aborigines. They only grow on the plant for a few weeks each year. The plum tree is a thorny shrub that can grow up to 2 m high. After the rain, fragrant white flowers bloom. This plant also has medicinal properties. MJ
