Philippe Chaperon (1823–1907) Interior of a Chapel 1891 Ink, watercolour and collage (the two figures) on paper, signed and dated in the lower left-hand corner 32 x 26 cm Condition report: Framed, with an attractive ogival-arched mat. In 1842, Philippe Chaperon joined the studio of Charles Ciceri, the director of set design at the Opéra. He collaborated with Charles Séchan, Édouard Desplechin, Jules Diéterle and Auguste Rubé.. He also produced decorative paintings for churches and private mansions, and received commissions for the Tuileries Palace and Paris City Hall. In partnership with Rubé, he became one of the most prolific theatre and opera set designers of the second half of the 19th century.
