InuYasha (犬夜叉) Based on the work of Rumiko Takahashi (高橋留美子) Castle Guard – Episode 66 Hand-painted celluloid used in the production of the anime Executed in ink and gouache Produced by Sunrise, 2000–2004, Japan H23 L26.5 cm An armoured skeleton warrior, sword raised : the faceless sentinel of a castle where uninvited guests are not welcome. InuYasha, by Rumiko Takahashi (the creator of Urusei Yatsura and Ranma ½), plunges a modern-day schoolgirl into the Japan of the civil wars, populated by demons who covet the shards of a cursed jewel. Her hero is himself half-monster : the son of a great dog-demon and a human mother, rejected by both worlds, he sees his demonic nature awaken (red eyes, zebra-striped cheeks, no longer able to control himself) when he loses control of himself.
