A tiny blue emperor, wearing a star-topped kepi and unable to keep his cool,
Pilaf dreams of conquering the world with the help of the Dragon Balls. He is Goku’s first adversary,
and, above all, a recurring comic relief character. His name comes from the rice dish, and the names of his henchmen,
Shu and Mai, when put together, spell ‘shūmai’: Toriyama named his gang after a
restaurant menu. In Dragon Ball GT, it is once again he who, through a clumsy wish,
turns Goku into a child: this ridiculous villain is at the root of the entire series.
