Description

Castle in the Sky – Laputa: Castle in the Sky (天空の城ラピュタ) Based on a story by Hayao Miyazaki (宮崎駿) Dora, Captain of the Sky Pirates / 00:01:37 Hand-painted celluloid used in the production of the animated feature film Executed in ink and gouache Produced by Studio Ghibli, 1986, Japan H23 L35.4 cm She pursues the heroes aboard her ship, the Tiger Moth, shouts at her three sons and will stop at nothing to get her hands on Sheeta’s pendant: Dola, captain of the air pirates, is the false villain of *Castle in the Sky*. Compared to Muska, the story’s true tyrant, the pirate matriarch is loud, greedy and formidable at first glance, but she eventually sides with Pazu and Sheeta. This shift is a recurring theme in Miyazaki’s work, as he readily imbues his ‘villains’ with a measure of generosity.
