Description
VIETNAM, 18th CENTURY Sculpture of Quan Thê Âm Lacquered and gilded wood figure of the deity Quan Thê Âm, represented seated in vajrasana on a double lotus-shaped base. The deity is represented with three faces, the main face looking serene, eyes half-closed, straight hair pulled back into a bun, two heads at the back, one zoomorphic and the other anthropomorphic. She is adorned with eight arms, the main hands placed at the front of the bust in the chuân-dê gesture, the others holding various attributes, the upper hands supporting two medallions with the inscriptions of the day (?) and the moon (?). The divinity rests on a quadrangular base decorated with dragons, with carved decoration of pigs in the upper part. Cracks and missing material, accidents to the arms, missing attribute. Total height with base: 128 cm
