A polychrome porcelain planter, decorated with four medallions featuring birds perched or in flight, surrounded by peonies, on a violet-glazed background depicting bats holding fruit and musical stones, the upper and lower sections adorned with friezes of ruyi symbols and stylised petals; the underside bears the inscription: ‘Imperial gift intended for the wife of a French cavalry officer’, dated 1905.
