Annotated on the reverse, with a 19th-century framer’s label.
In an Empire-style wooden and gilded stucco frame.
This work depicts Louis-Auguste Jouvenel des Ursins d’Harville (1749–
1815). At the beginning of the Empire, he was Empress Joséphine’s chief equerry.
Louis Auguste had distinguished himself particularly as a lieutenant-general during
the Battle of Jemappes in November 1792.
