Théodore de SAUSSURE (1824–1903), attributed to, “Roma”, fan design Oil on cardboard. H_ 32 cm W_ 59 cm Born in Switzerland, Théodore de Saussure was a politician, soldier, writer and painter. Highly active in Swiss cultural and political life, he became, among other roles, a member of the Grand Council of Geneva, then president of the Société des Arts, and a trustee of the Rath Museum. Towards the end of his career, he became president of the Federal Commission for Fine Arts. He was also instrumental in founding the Swiss Society for the Preservation of Historic Monuments. He exhibited at the National Exhibition in Geneva in 1896 and created stage sets in Genthod. Our fan depicts an architectural whim in the style of the artists of the 18th century.
