Our painting is one of the landscape studies still present in
Rosa Bonheur’s studio at the time of her death. This is evidenced by the number written in
chalk on the reverse, added at the time of the 1900 sale.
Rosa Bonheur is one of the most important French female painters.
She gained, notably through her *Marché aux chevaux*, a
considerable international reputation during her lifetime and is thus one of the great
representatives of French Realism
