Auguste MOREAU (1834–1917)
A fine small table in chiselled, gilded bronze and Balmoral granite. The base features two putti supporting a cup, engraved with the inscription: ‘Homage to the talent of Victor Warot – the subscribers of the Royal Theatre – Antwerp, 7 February 1884’.
The group of putti is signed: Ate MOREAU. Auguste Moreau.

Victor Alexandre Joseph Warot came from a distinguished line of musicians; his family were of Belgian origin. He was the son of Victor Louis Warot (1808–1877), a composer and teacher born in Ghent, Belgium, who died in Bois-Colombes (Seine). A conductor, he spent 15 years in Rennes as a teacher before settling in Paris in 1855
