Antoine Louis BARYE (1795–1875), after A pair of figures described as ‘incredible and marvellous’, in patinated bronze, resting on square, moulded plinths. The first, entitled ‘CHOPARD’, depicts Paulin Meunier playing the role of Chopard. The second, known as ‘FOUINARD’, depicts Augustin Guillemet, known as Alexandre, playing the role of Fouinard. Paris. Late 19th century. H_ 25 cm W_ 9 cm During the Directoire period, around 1795–1799, a group of fashionable young men called themselves the ‘Incroyables and Merveilles’.
