Description
A very fine set of six queen-style armchairs with flat backs, made of re-lacquered beechwood, carved with flowers and leafy stems, and decorated with gilding over a lacquered background. The undulating backrest features curved armrests with cuffs, whilst the supports are in a ‘whip-cut’ style. The scalloped apron rests on curved legs finished with an acanthus scroll. Upholstered in fabric featuring a design of pomegranates and foliage on a red ground, edged with domed brass studs.
Lyon. Louis XV period. Circa 1755/60
attributed to Pierre NOGARET (1718–1771), who was admitted as a master craftsman in Lyon in June 1745.
