Description
A pair of large candlesticks in chiselled and gilded bronze. The baluster-shaped shaft is decorated with foliage, drapery and gadroons. The square base, edged with friezes of ovals and heart-shaped motifs, is adorned on all sides with medallions featuring beaded rims, depicting quivers crowned with laurel wreaths and figures dressed in ancient style. The whole rests on a bevelled plinth decorated with small flowers, supported by lion’s paws.
Italy. Dated to the late 18th century. In the style of Luigi VALADIER.
