Description
A veneered chest of drawers with a stepped front, featuring two drawers with oak-coloured fronts and recessed crossbars. The front features a central panel decorated with musical motifs and two side panels decorated with openwork cubes. These are surrounded by composite mouldings featuring Greek fret patterns. The sides are inlaid in a similar style. The upright sides, which are rounded at the front, are embellished with simulated fluting. They rest on curved, tapered legs. Chiselled and gilded bronze fittings: lock plate, pull rings, apron, drop pieces and lion-pawed feet. Top of Aleppo breccia marble with a grooved edge. Stamped: J.B FROMAGEAU. Jean Baptiste Fromageau (c. 1720–?). Recognised as a master craftsman in 1755 and bearing the guild hallmark JME (on the upper left crossbar).
