François Van Dorne was a Flemish portrait painter. He served an apprenticeship in the studio of Jacques-Louis David (1748–1825), from whom he adopted a resolutely neoclassical style and technique. His palette is tinged with his Northern influences, featuring cooler tones and skin tones that are characteristic of his style. He died in Leuven, Belgium, in 1848.
