The so-called Medici vases symbolise the close link between the Medici family and Renaissance culture, combining a taste for antiquity with the influence of great patrons, notably Catherine de’ Medici and François I de’ Medici. The most famous are made of white marble, broad and cylindrical in shape, often decorated with mythological scenes or classical figures.
