Interior scene
Oil on canvas.
H 46 cm, W 60.5 cm
Re-stretched, varnish heavily oxidised, restorations.
Important moulded frame.
This painting features subjects dear to Scheffer, characterised by both a romantic chiaroscuro and a Flemish influence. The subject also clearly contrasts the old age of the evidently important man at the centre of the composition with the youth of the figures surrounding him.
