Homer was an ancient Greek poet said to have lived in the 8th century BC, born around 800 BC and died around 740 BC. He is described as an aedus, a singing poet who accompanied himself on a musical instrument. Blind, he travelled throughout Ancient Greece reciting his poems. He is credited with the famous works *The Iliad* and *The Odyssey*, as well as numerous other tales. These two major works, recounting the Trojan War and the adventures of Odysseus on his return to Ithaca, had a profound impact during antiquity. Today, these texts are still studied and remain as fascinating as ever.
