FRANCESCO DE ROCCHI (1902-1978) Saint Mark's Square, Venice 1953 Oil on canvas signed and dated lower left Dimensions: 80 x 60 cm An Italian painter born in Saronno, he studied art at the Brera Academy in Milan and became involved in the Novecento Italiano movement in the second half of the 1920s. His adherence to the Chiarismo movement in the 1930s resulted in a lightening of colours and a reduction of volumes in his work. Based mainly in Milan, he continued to paint and exhibit after the Second World War, with frequent visits to Venice and Versilia.
