A versatile Italian artist, son of the founder of the Treccani Institute, Ernesto Treccani edited the magazine Corrente, a crucial milieu for Italian anti-fascist culture alongside Birolli, Guttuso, Migneco and Sassu. Also active in the Resistance, Treccani combined civil commitment and expressive research throughout his life. His art bears witness to a profound link between words, painting and civil conscience.
Ernesto Treccani stands out for his unconventional artistic career, rooted in a strong civil sensibility and refined figurative talent. His biography as a painter is rich in precise stages: after his experience in Corrente and in youth exhibitions at the Bottega di Corrente and the Galleria della Spiga, his first solo exhibition took place in 1949 at the Il Milione gallery in Milan. The post-war years saw him take centre stage at the Biennale, in London and New York, with works that linked Calabrian peasant life with urban industrial environments.
