An Italian painter and ceramist born in Rapallo, he began his studies at the Ecole Navale, but as a young man he already had a passion for painting, particularly still lifes. His destiny was clear... Represented by the San Babilan Gallery, Cardinali began his career in Milan with subjects depicting people in the street, the poor of the world.
In the early 1950s, under the patronage of Picasso and Cocteau, he settled permanently in Paris and exhibited with the artists of the Cité. It was with a preface by Jean Cocteau that he held a solo exhibition in Saint-Paul de Vence. After a number of exhibitions and fruitful years, Cardinali began working in clay when Picasso went to the workshops in Vallauris.
It was at the end of the 60s that he abandoned the figures in favour of an abstract world, stripped bare with a great sense of the mineral material.
