Description
LUCIO DEL PEZZO (1933) Trofeo, 1987 Sculpture in polychrome-painted wood, resting on a circular terrace and set in a translucent Plexiglas case. Signed on the base with the artist's proof. Dimensions: 30 x 16 x 16 cm - Plexiglas case: 30 x 16.5 x 16.5 cm - An Italian painter, graphic artist and sculptor born in Naples, Lucio del Pezzo was one of the founders of the neo-surrealist-inspired "Gruppo 58" with the magazine Documento Sud. His works from the period 1958-1960 are based on assemblages of various objects, including fragments of popular prints and images. After a spell in Paris, in 1962 he produced his typical repertoire of paintings and sculptures, made up of monochrome geometric panels. The "ironic tone" and the use of everyday objects taken out of context mean that the works produced are close to Pop Art, although there are also influences from De Chirico, Carrà and Morandi. Works held at the Galerie d'Art Moderne in Rome, Centre Georges Pompidou and Musée National d'Art Moderne in Paris, M.O.M.A. and Guggenheim Museum in New York.
